SAFETY STATEMENT

Policy

Samson Shutters shall meet requirements of the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 1989 and ensure, so far as is reasonably practical, the health and safety of our employees while at work and the safety of other people whom we may effect.

The company's programme for safety shall be defined in this Safety Statement. A Copy shall be displayed in the workshop.

Responsibility

Austin Sammon shall have overall responsibility for safety. He shall ensure that:

  1. The safety hazards are identified and listed in the Safety Statement.
  2. Appropriate measures to control these hazards are implemented.
  3. The necessary protective clothing and equipment are provided.
  4. All employees understand the Safety Statement.
  5. All matters relevant to safety are recorded in the Safety Log (part 2).
  6. Accidents and dangerous occurrences are reported to the Health & Safety Authority and copies of any notifiable accidents are maintained.
  7. Records will be kept of all accidents in the Accident Report Book.
  8. All employees carry there safepass registration cards.

Co-operation expected from employees

Each employee is expected to:

  1. Take care of his own and other people's safety.
  2. Use the protective equipment provided (safety glasses, hardhats, earplugs, safety gloves, etc.) when appropriate.
  3. Follow the guidelines in the Safety Statement.
  4. Report any problems that may effect safety.

Training

Austin Sammon shall ensure that all employees have read the Safety Statement, understood the hazards and the precautions that they are expected to implement and signed the Safety Log (Part I).

Consultation

Every employee has direct access to Austin Sammon and should discuss anything that concerns safety as soon as it arises. He shall decide the appropriate action. The concern and action taken shall be recorded in the Safety Log (part 2).

Visitors and Sub-Contractors

Visitors shall not be allowed into the workshop unless accompanied by an employee of Samson Shutters who shall ensure that the relevant safety precautions are observed. Sub-contractors may work on the premises unsupervised only after they have signed, in the Safety Log, that they understand the relevant hazards and safety measures.

Safety Manual

The Safety Manual shall contain:

  1. A copy of the Safety Statement.
  2. Copies of forms IRI & lR3 - to report accidents and dangerous occurrences.
  3. Signatures of employees who have read and understood the Safety Statement (Safety Log, Part I).
  4. A record of each Safety Audit
  5. An Accident Report Book.
  6. A record of all matters concerning safety raised by employees and the action taken (Safety Log part 2).

Auditing

The company shall be audited every twelve months by Austin Sammon or a suitably trained individual using a prepared questionnaire to ensure that:

  1. All hazards that pose a significant risk have been listed in the Safety Statement.
  2. Appropriate measures to control these hazards have been implemented and are effective.
  3. Critical equipment has been inspected and is in good working order.

The Managing Director
